Covers local sports in the Eagle Tribune’s coverage area, focusing primarily on high school soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Also oversees production of The Derry News’ sports section.

Sports Editor, 2014-2015
Oversaw the daily production of the paper’s sports section, including story planning, assignment and page design. Also wrote two to three articles per day.

Amesbury Reporter, 2012-2014
Covered the city of Amesbury for the paper, including government, the schools and everything else that happened around the community.

Oversaw all aspects of the editorial department.

Sports Editor, 2010-2011
Oversaw over 30 writers and graphic designers, ran the weekly sports meeting and prepared the budget. Created and launched the paper’s sports blog and Twitter account.

Beats included men’s basketball, football, baseball, women’s hockey, women’s soccer, softball, track and golf. Traveled extensively, covering the 2011 Fiesta Bowl and the men’s basketball team’s Big East and National Championship runs in 2011.

Awards and Honors

Two-Time National Hearst Journalism Award Winner
Winner of the National Hearst Journalism Award in back-to-back years for reporting on college football’s Bowl Championship Series and the financial losses most schools that participated incurred. Won third prize for Sports Writing in 2012 for breaking the initial story that UConn lost $1.8 million at the 2011 Fiesta Bowl, and then won fifth prize for Enterprise Reporting in 2013 for breaking down the finances of every public university that reached the BCS between 2010 and 2012.

First Place Award for Best Sports Feature from the Connecticut SPJ
Won first prize from the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists in the Spring of 2012 for best Sports Feature story in the college category. The story was about UConn quarterback Johnny McEntee and his ascension from walk-on to starter.

IRE Campus Coverage Project
Was one of 75 students nationally accepted to the prestigious IRE Campus Coverage Project in Arizona in January of 2012. Received advanced training in public records law and investigative reporting techniques.

Michael J. Whalen Award
Was awarded the Michael J. Whalen Award for distinguished achievement in journalism by the UConn Journalism Department in the Spring of 2011.

Community Service

Boston Marathon
Raised over $2,500 for Team Livestrong by running the 2010 Boston Marathon.
